The Nintendo 3DS Once Again Sets the Pace in Portable Gaming

When it comes to innovation in gaming handheld and video games in general, Nintendo is the name that most gamers should watch out for. Nintendo, which was founded more than 100 years ago as a card game company, is on a technological race with other companies lately. They invented the Nintendo Wii with the revolutionary motion control scheme. Just recently, Nintendo created the next generation of portable handheld console called the Nintendo 3DS.

The Nintendo 3DS is on the same lines of the Nintendo DS or Dsi. However, the 3DS is more powerful than both systems and, of course, it can play new games in 3D. Playing games in 3D alone is a testament to the power that this pocket console packs in. If you are familiar with 3D movies like James Cameron's Avatar, then you may already have an idea how this works. Suffice it to say, the 3D in this machine is much better because you don't need to wear 3D glasses. Plus the fact that you are viewing the 3D effects in handheld just enhances the experience even further. Now, some people might not want to view the 3D effects, no problem, just use the slider accessory to turn the 3D off.

Most Nintendo fans will already have a DS or Dsi with them. This is a good thing if you want to buy a 3DS since the new machine was made to be fully backward compatible with the game carts of these older systems. This makes the game library of the Nintendo 3DS one of the largest at game launch. That's a wonderful thing to know if you are a DS fan. In addition, the 3DS has not change the form factor that much from the original DS. You have the top screen and lower touchscreen that you can fiddle with using a stylus. Not only that, this machine also has two outer cameras that can see in 3D. How cool is that?

The Nintendo 3DS can't get anymore next generation than this. The handheld console is just feature packed it's surprising how Nintendo can fit all of it in the small frame of the machine. Even the control scheme of the portable machine has been improved a lot. Just look at the upper left side of the lower screen. Notice the Circle Pad? That Circle Pad is an analog controller specifically made to control 3D games.

At the end of the day, a next generation portable console is nothing without wireless capabilities. The Nintendo 3DS has wireless capabilities up to an extreme. You can transfer data wirelessly at 2.4 Ghz. With this device, you can connect easily to any access points or WLAN hotspots. And of course, with fast data transfers you need to have a ton of storage capacity. That's why Nintendo made sure that you get an SD expansion slot to add to the internal drive of the 3DS. You'll also get a free 2 GB SD card with the console.
